How to Build Communities

An interview with Jeff Atwood

Jeff Atwood

Description:

In this interview, Jeff Atwood reveals what led to the success of Stack Overflow and how he managed to beat the incumbents. We discuss the importance of building software iteratively and how to gather the right feedback. We also talk about the vision for his new company Discourse.

Quote:

Do some research, know what’s out there. Understand the successes and failures of the market. A lot of the time your success has nothing to do with the quality of your product, but its timing. Therefore, get a prototype out quickly, so you’re not in the business of explaining ideas to people. Getting a prototype in front of someone is worth 10x more than getting an idea in front of them.
